Outer Ring Road in Mysore City

The City of Mysore is developing at a fast pace, owing to the presence and fresh arrival of number of new industries, educational institutions and also owing to world famous tourist spots in and around the City. On account of the fast development of the city, vehicular traffic has also increased manifold, thereby causing traffic congestion in the city. To decongest the city & to have an easy access to the various new layouts developed by MUDA and to connect major roads of the city to a single arterial road the Mysore Urban Development Authority proposed the Outer Ring Road. Though this proposal was mooted long back, it could not be implemented owing to financial constraints. However, the MUDA with the financial assistance of Asian Development Bank in coordination with Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation has taken up this project and has completed it successfully.

The total length of outer ring road is 32.357 KM, with a width of 45 Mtr all along having a provision of 4 lanes. Out of.32 357 K. M., 24.872 K. M., runs on the western side and 7.485 K. M., runs on the eastern side of the city. Due to financial constraint only 2 lane width of road is constructed on western side of the ring road; since 4 lane road was formed during the construction of sites and Services, this was continued and completed as four lanes in the eastern wing of the ring road. The total cost of the project was Rs. 50,14,43,027=00

The ORR is completed in all respects and opened for traffic during October 2004 and the vehicles are moving on the entire ORR. Further following efforts have been taken up by MUDA for the improvement of ORR i.e.,
1. Complete plantation on ORR under the project called GBMORR (Green and Beautiful Mysore Outer Ring Road) has been taken up with the financial assistance from WeP Peripherals, Bangalore at cost of Rs. 24.00 lakhs, till now around 100% of ORR has been covered by tree plantation with various species of trees. Forest department is executing the work.
2. 9.5 K. M., of O.R.R is still to be constructed on the eastern portion of the city, where the land acquisition is under progress and will be completed soon.
3. Complete lighting of ORR is being taken up.
4. Destination boards are being put on the ORR along with traffic aid equipments.
